AFIJFW | Showtime! The Producers Introduction
AFI Joburg Fashion Week will be curated by some of South Africa’s best producers who have worked at top Fashion shows around the world including New York and Paris Fashion Week.
AFI will be working with five producers whose work span over three decades. With the theme #AfroAsia, AFI Joburg Fashion Week will showcase the best of African fashion with a sprinkle of Asian influence. The producers Jan Malan, Andiswa Manxiwa, Adhiambo Mula-Lauwers, Deon Redman and Juanita Køtze will transform the walkways of Melrose Arch into a colourful festivity combining the beautiful Asian culture with our African tones.
Jan Malan says the fashion lovers should expect nothing but the best curated shows which will combine the beauty of two colourful continents. “I will be working with the best team of designers putting together an incredible week of fashion combining the best of street style, couture and ready-to-wear that will leave people asking for more. The production of the shows will be out of this world with the creativity inspired by Asia and our beautiful continent of Africa,” Jan says.
Jan Malan - Umzingeli Productions
Jan has been directing and producing shows for AFI both Cape Town and Joburg since its inception in 2007.
Since the beginning of his career, Jan has staged high profile productions in 36 cities on four continents. Apart from a myriad of productions in Africa, Jan has directed and produced shows on schedule at New York Fashion Week from 2000 to 2016. Jan has had some of the world’s most sought after models on his runways. Industry icons such as Karlie Kloss, Alek Wek, Liya Kebede, Behati Prinsloo, Chanel Iman, Lara Stone, Coco Rocha, Tyson Beckford and Freja Beha Erichsen, as well as legends such as Pat Cleveland and Grace Jones.
Deon Redman - Deon Redman Creative Production
With an extensive range of experience across all aspects of fashion production, Deon has produced seasonal Fashion Week shows in all four international capitals (New York, London, Paris and Milan) as well as projects in 32 cities worldwide.
In addition to working with AFI fashion weeks, Deon produced and directed a wide range of fashion and luxury lifestyle related events locally. His international clients included Gucci, Prada, YSL, Tommy Hilfiger, Julien Macdonald, Jonathan Saunders, Basso & Brooke, Diesel, Victor & Rolf, Orange, L’Oreal and MAC Cosmetics among numerous others.
Andiswa Manxiwa – AM Productions
Andiswa’s successful modeling career since 2002 gained her the opportunity to meet and work with the best in the fashion industry.
She started her career as a producer in 2004 while working for Umzingeli Productions, where she was trained and groomed by Jan Malan.
Her profound experience was gained from the many shows she choreographed including Mozambique Fashion Week from 2006, to 2009; Nokia Face of Africa 2005, 2006 and 2008; and Positive Rocks featuring John Legend in 2007.
Adhiambo Mula Lauwers – Red Dahlia
Multi-lingual show producer, Adhiambo Mula-Lauwers has notched over 12 years of global experience in the fashion industry. Under the company Red Dahlia, Adhiambo provides holistic fashion events solutions, from services conception, production design and execution, choreography and model casting.
Juanita Køtzé - The Rare Librarian
Juanita wears many hats as a curator, conceptualiser, costume designer - choreographer, casting director and a producer. She has been in the fashion industry for 30 years, working on projects such as international fashion week, theatre and musical productions.
Mary Reynolds - Tramps
Mary Reynolds founder of TR₳MPS has over 25 years of creative event production experience, in excess of 2000 projects ranging from high profile fashion events, to International Pageants, and state of the art premier launches.
She has worked extensively in Africa, France, Germany and Switzerland. She has produced 6 seasons in Paris at Paris Couture Fashion Week. She has produced & directed show productions for most of South Africa’s premier fashion shows such as AFI Fashion Week.
