Craig Port, fashion entrepreneur and extraordinaire, is a former student at CPUT, for a man that was inspired by his father to take up shirt making then the official Craig Port range of clothes, the current phase he is in at this point has been a horizon loaded with hard work, drive and a creativity that classifies its self as Smart, casual and so sophisticated he begs no introduction to the stylish men in and around the world as they know the best Shirts are fully Craig Port, in his trail of success, has been a CEO of Kangol and X&O seen as Style's Man of the Year 2000.

 

We were fortunate enough to sit across this style icon and have a chit chat

 

CPT: Would you rather be a comedian or politician?
C Port : "Comedian first Politician later"

 

CPT: How would you best describe your fashion style both as a designer and Individual?
C Port: " Its is modern, classy with attitude, and both as a designer and individual I have the same styles."

 

CPT: Who was your style icon in the 60s 70s and 80s respectively?
C Port: "In the 60s it was my father, 70s was John Travolta and the 80s was George Michael"

 

CPT: Name the best Fashion event you have ever attended and why does it stand out?
C Port: It would have to be a few, Paris in the 90s was purely remarkable and I stayed for two days, then it would be the Cape Town Fashion week six years ago, an event that still stands out,

 

CPT: What and where was the biggest crowd you've had to showcase for?
C Port: "It was the Mexican Fashion week in Acapulco, an extraordinary extravagant event followed by a press conference, partnered with the Department Trade Industry (DTI)

 

CPT: Being in an ever changing Fashion scene, how in your idea has the scene changed and where do you see it heading?
C Port: "Basically the fashion in SA is constantly buzzing and most of the well known designers come from here, we have no limits and that will allow fashion in SA to push boundaries,"

 

CPT: What is in the horizons for you currently?
C Port: " I have been working on various projects but my main is the Miss Port range, developing that, further more in the trail is a jewellery and just all round hard work and development"

 

CPT: Who is your biggest client?
C Port: "I don't have a big client because all my clients are important. But I would like to dress former president Nelson Mandela and Angelina Jolie."

 

CPT: Who would you like to work with in this ever changing industry?
C Port: "I would have to say Errol Arendse, Malcolm Kluk and Armani".

 

CPT :key traits one should have in this industry?
C Port: "You must have love and passion for design, you must have an eye for fabrics with a true gut feeling when creating and you must always believe in yourself at all times"

 

CPT: Lastly what is your signature trade mark for the fashionable Craig Port?
C Port: A casually fitted shirt (Bohemian) and a Cotton shirt,

 

For a man who has been around longer in this game of fashion and creativity Craig Port has hustled and slaved to be where is now, starting from the bottom and working up, from a CPUT student that landed a post with Polo, catapulting his career and opened doors of creativity and handwork, indeed fashion can be in his blood but hard work allows it to flow freely in his body.
