The Proteas are not the biggest under achievers in the history of cricket but the biggest chokers in the events that matter.

In the last 10 years we have been occupying the top 2 positions in both forms of cricket the longest with the Aussies. We have been as dominant as much as the Aussies, we have made mince meat out of all the test nations.

England had to resort to taking our own fresh products in order to compete with us. Those Lions have made SA born players their captains (Pieterson and Strauss), damn Trott is Englands best player. Guess international cricket is not about where you from but where you given an opportunity to play, and good decisions by those players.

India India India are the world champs, the number test team in world before a South African named Kirsten the team was disaster mode. Now we wait and see how another African will fair for India, Zimbambwean Duncan Fletcher as Indians do not posses the skills to coach at top level yet.

Well Australia winning streak or should I say dominance in cricket had to end at some point, Babylon went down, Greece went down, Rome went down and staying with cricket the dominant West Indies also went down. The growth of world cricket needs a competitive Australia though.

sport development

All 3 of these countries in the next 8 years they will play close to 100 test matches each while SA will hardly reach 75 test matches. My first reactions to this was anger because none of those countries have better talent then SA at the moment, we may be chokers but they not better then us.

Then I remembered, England has the pound, India has the financial power and Australia the arrogance of dictating cricket in the new millennium. The fact that cricket is loosing popularity in SA is not helping at all. South Africa has more then 50 million people and the population is growing but CSA is failing to make this sport popular to the masses. Test cricket attendance has been on an all time low until recently thanks to the Indians. If the attendance to Test matches is low how can SA actually expect over 90 test matches in the next 8 years.

It's proven we may posses the best talent but commercially we not attractive, we do not pay the best (ECB, BCCI), we do not have over a billion people (even England has more population), our domestic league lost it's appeal, how in the world do we expect to be taken seriously by the ICC. Our Gerald Majola is at the ICC annual general meeting I do not see him holding any weight only thing you hear about is BCCI vs ICC vs ECB vs CA.

commercial appeal

Cricket South Africa please know this; international cricket is joke at the moment, probably will be until more then 10 nations run the growth and quality of this beautiful sport. Until that day comes, make sure the are new local franchises are owned businesses or businessmen with a financial power to grow and make this game more appealing to South Africans. Once our domestic league is more appealing our teams will attract better international players then Shah of the Cape Cobras (England). If more can done for disadvantage areas to grow this game this beautiful game will have much more commercial appeal. A family needs one cricket crazy head and I promise that person can influence the whole family and friends to take note of the game. Mr Majola think about this if a township like Nyanga, Guguletu and Langa can have more then 18 soccer teams and cricket has only 1 team whats wrong with that picture? CSA can not change how international cricket views South African and African state of cricket but CSA can do a hell lot to change things locally and make this beautiful game appealing commercially and to over 50 million of South African residents. In 15 years it should be Africa time
